Dog Drafting

Chest plate, 1 1/2" wide saddle skirting strap, is a generic length measure (medium, large, extra large breeds) with 3/4" shoulder hang and full girth straps adjustable for a range of body sizes within size groupings. Tugs are 3/4" saddle skirting. All leather can be had in 10-12 oz. or 12-14oz. weights. Hardware is stainless steel or brass for no-rust dependability. Prices vary from $100.00 - $225.00. Custom designs are welcome. We can make it in leather to suit your needs. We are very traditional here and do not do biothane or nylon harness. Email us to talk about how you can get a great leather harness set for your dog and start drafting soon.
Ada, a flat coat retriever that my daughter adopted from a rescue shelter, at work pulling. This is great exercise for your dog and in this age of rising gas prices may be the grocery store hauler in your future.

Ada taking a well deserved rest.
Close-up of the harness. The shafts are heavy duty PVC pipe that have been attached to a Tractor Supply garden cart wagon with pneumatic tires. The pin you see keeps the shafts from sliding forward and letting the cart creep up on Ada when going downhill or stopping. The tugs attach by clips to the wagon bed and the shafts have been adapted to fit to the wagon's tongue. We just got started with this so I am not all that familiar with actual dog draft carts. But this rig has proven quite functional for hauling around my daughter's fostered full bred collie dog, Sadie. Sadie came from a breeding mill and was cast off when she developed mammary tumors. She has a bad middle ear issue and walks poorly, often in circles and off-balance. So, my daughter throws her into the cart and she gets to go along on walks with the rest of our pack (8 dogs between us and it swells to 12 when the sisters-in-law come along). Ada and Harlan, another rescue and a collie mix about Ada's size, take turns hauling Sadie (or Dora the beagle when she whines enough ;-).
